Capturing Classic French Blazer Style

Classic French blazer style

One Parisian fashion statement piece above all others expresses French sophistication and refinement: c’ést le blazer classique – the classic blazer. Now imagine that transformed into a dress!

The classic French blazer style is everywhere in Paris. The men could throw a blazer on over a rumpled collared shirt and suddenly look debonair without trying. Parisian women epitomize French class by styling a blazer over skinny jeans and a classic white tee or a chic blouse, pairing it with a feminine scarf, an attractive handbag, and classic flats or heels, depending on the occasion. Combined with the French natural, seemingly effortless – yet always put-together! – beauty aesthetic, the sophisticated look is complete.

The classic French blazer style is classique for a reason. It brings with it a certain sense of tradition, of polished professionalism, of self-respect. A good blazer can instantly make any outfit look more upscale. I also love the fact that the blazer is an equalizer; it’s an article of clothing that denotes sophistication in both men and women.

Sandals: Patti Sandals in White by Sam Edelman

As those of you who have been following me for some time can tell, I love to reinvent the classics with my looks. When I came across this navy Blazer Dress with Pearl Buttons by Zara, I had to have it. It combined all elements of the classic blazer look and transformed them into a tailored, chic minidress. The pearl buttons are the perfect finishing touch. Mes amies, this blazer dress is now on sale from $99.90 to $29.99, so act fast!

In the spirit of the 4th of July and upcoming Bastille Day, I styled the dress with this new gorgeous red Mini City Bag by Zara (which only set me back $39.90) and my favorite white Patti Sandals by Sam Edelman.

For those wondering about fit of the blazer dress, it has a lovely tailored cut. The dress fits so well and comfortably, and combined with the dark navy color, provides a very flattering, feminine shape. Pair it with strappy heels like I did or a classic loafer for a busy day that includes a lot of walking.

Standing by the lagoon in the Public Garden, I felt as though I could have been by the banks of the Seine. Paris is a mindset, and one that I like to take with me wherever I go. Of course, the beautiful Swan Boats gliding happily past will always remind you that you are in Boston!

Seeing as we are about to celebrate America’s birthday on the 4th of July, I had to take an extra moment to stop and admire the statue of our nation’s first chief executive, President George Washington, in the Public Garden. You can read more about details of the sculpture and its historical background here in an interesting article from CelebrateBoston.com.

A day spent out in Back Bay is not the complete without a stroll down beautiful Commonwealth Avenue. The gorgeous 18th-century European-style façades of the buildings, the grand boulevard, the ornate, wrought-iron gates, the formal gardens and beautiful flowers flowing from window boxes all bring so much of what is beautify about Paris right here to Boston.

All Photo Credits: James Saulsky (@jsaulsky) I love classic dresses that highlight a woman’s femininity and sense of tradition, and yet I also sometimes like the infusion of modern lines or edge. What I loved about this blue lace…
