I love classic dresses that highlight a woman’s femininity and sense of tradition, and yet I also sometimes like the infusion of modern lines or edge. What I loved about this blue lace dress by Alexis that I wore to host the Style Collective Podcast Launch Party at the French restaurant La Voile on Newbury Street in Boston (read all about that event here) was that it combined traditionally feminine lace with modern, horizontal lines and lace-covered cutouts.

Sometimes when I am attending (or in this case, hosting) an event, and I feel like I could use a snap of boldness or something new and different, I’ll turn to Rent the Runway (RTR). This is a fabulous thing to do for a wedding if you feel like mixing it up without overfilling your already packet closet (if you’re anything like me) or spending so much on a dress you may only wear for one special occasion! Get 20% your first Rent the Runway order using the code FIRST by clicking here!
Not only does RTR have dresses and other outfits to rent for special events, but they also send you a free backup size and they have a wide array of beautiful accessories to complement your look. For this event, I chose a sparkly Rebecca Minkoff envelope clutch which was just perfect, added a glamorous touch to my look, and fit everything I needed!
For heels, I opted for my Sam Edelman classic strappy black sandals, which I love. I have these in white too and need to buy them in beige. They have a nice clean look and go with everything – plus, they have a lovely cushioned sole and are very comfortable!
I stepped out from the Style Collective party for this quick photoshoot on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall in Back Bay, which was designed in the French boulevard style by Arthur Gilman in 1856 (I knew I loved this boulevard for a reason!). You can read more on this history of Comm Ave and Back Bay in an interesting Boston.gov article entitled “Commonwealth Avenue Mall.”
You can rent this blue “Delila” Lace Sheath Dress and the Rebecca Minkoff Black Leo Clutch from RTR or buy my strappy sandals by clicking the links below. You can also shop a similar Alexis “Delila” Sheath in black in black under “Shop the Look” at the very end of the post!

Once back at the beautiful French brasserie La Voile, I sat admiring photographs of French greats that don the walls, such as one of the ever-elegant Catherine Deneuve, a famous and beloved French actress. Being in La Voile felt like being back in France, and I became very pensive as I felt myself being inspired all over again by the intoxicating nature of the French way of life.
